EV and hybrid

Service and tires for your electric car

We do inspections, brakes, air conditioning service and tires on electric cars and hybrids too. Our employees are trained to safely de-energize the high-voltage system.

What is different with electric cars

  • Before anyone works on the orange cables, a trained employee de-energizes the high-voltage system and checks that it is safe.
  • The brakes do little work, because the motor helps to brake when it recuperates. Discs and pistons are then more likely to rust and seize than to wear out. That is why we check for rust and free movement, not only pad thickness.
  • The A/C compressor often cools the battery too. For the air conditioning service, we use the refrigerant oil the manufacturer approves for the electric compressor.
  • We do the inspection according to the manufacturer’s specifications, with an entry in the service book.

Tires for electric cars

Electric cars are heavier and pull away with full torque. That is why the tread often wears out sooner, especially on the drive axle.

Load capacity

Check the load index

Many electric cars need tires with a higher load index, marked XL or HL on the sidewall. The minimum index required is listed in your vehicle registration certificate (Fahrzeugschein).

Range

Rolling resistance

Tires with low rolling resistance cost less range. On the EU tire label, it is shown as a letter from A to E.

Tread

Swap axles

Because the drive axle wears faster, it is especially worth swapping the wheels from front to rear on electric cars when changing them.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you service electric cars and hybrids?

Yes: inspection, brakes, air conditioning service and tires. Before we start, a trained employee de-energizes the high-voltage system. We do not work on the high-voltage battery itself.

Do electric cars need different tires?

Often, yes. Many electric cars need tires with a higher load index, marked XL or HL on the sidewall. We also look for low rolling resistance, which costs less range. And because the drive axle wears faster, it pays to swap the wheels between front and rear when changing them.
